The 2025 Gulangyu Piano Competition will be held at Gulangyu, Xiamen, China, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The competition is organized by the Administrative Committee of Xiamen Gulangyu-Wanshishan Scenic Area and hosted by the Gulangyu Piano Competition Organizing Committee. The jury will be composed of renowned musicians from both China and abroad.
I. Categories
The competition is divided into Artist and Junior categories, consisting of video preliminary round, semifinals and finals.
Semifinalists: 12 contestants for each category
Finalists: 6 contestants for each category
II. Eligibility(open to all nationalities)
Artist Category: age between 17 and 32 (1993.7.21—2009.7.20)
Junior Category: age between 12 and 16 (2009.7.21—2013. 7.20)
III. Repertoire Requirements
1. Artist Category
a) Video Preliminary Round (20-25 minutes):
①one virtuosic etude
②one work or one group of works by Bach
③one or two works chosen by the contestant
b) Semifinals (45-50 minutes):
The contestant will choose all works including one complete sonata by Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven. All works must be different from the video preliminary round
c)Finals (one concerto from the list below):

2.Junior Category
a) Video Preliminary Round (15-20 minutes, all works may be used in
Semifinals or Finals)

③one or two works chosen by the contestant
b) Semifinals (20-25 minutes):
①one etude by Chopin or Liszt.
②one complete sonata by Haydn or Mozart.
③one or two works chosen by the contestant
c) Finals (25-30 minutes):
The contestant will choose all works in at least two different styles. All works must be different from the semifinals.

2. Schedule and Procedures
a)The competition organizing committee will arrange for experts to conduct an initial review of the application materials to determine the eligibility of applicants. Results of the preliminary round will be communicated to the applicants by phone or email by August 20, 2025, and will also be published online on the Xiamen Gulangyu Government Affairs website: http://gly.xm.gov.cn and the official website of the Xiamen Gulangyu Cultural Tourism Development Center: http://www.glyylq.cn.
b)Contestants advancing to the semifinals must arrive in Xiamen, China, and report to the designated location by the morning of September 30, 2025. This competition is limited to on-site participation; video submissions are not accepted.
c)The performance order will be determined by a draw held on the afternoon of September 30 and will apply throughout the competition. Contestants must arrive at the venue at the designated time; failure to do so will be considered a withdrawal from the competition.
d)All performances must be played from memory. Contestants may decide the order of their repertoire and the use of repeats.
e)If contestants wish to modify their repertoire, they must notify the competition organizing committee by August 31, 2025. No changes to the repertoire are allowed during the competition period.
f)On the day of their performance, contestants are required to provide two photocopies of their repertoire for that round.

First Prize: CNY 60,000

2.Junior Category
First Prize: CNY 40,000
Second Prize: CNY 30,000

Special Notes:
1. The above amounts are pre-tax and subject to applicable income tax as required by law.
2. Travel subsidies will be provided to contestants in the professional category who participate in the semifinals.
s Contestants from Europe, the Americas, Oceania, and Africa will receive a travel subsidy of CNY 6,000 per person;
s Contestants from Asian countries, as well as from Taiwan Province, Hong Kong SAR, and Macau SAR, will receive CNY 4,000 per person;
s Contestants from within mainland China (excluding Taiwan Province, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Fujian Province) will receive CNY 3,000 per person;
s Contestants from Fujian Province (excluding Xiamen City) will receive CNY 2,000 per person..
VI. Registration Information
No fees will be charged for participation in this competition. All expenses related to travel, accommodation, meals, and transportation for contestants and their companions shall be borne by the individuals themselves.
Each contestant must submit the following documents via email to: gulangyupiano@163.com.
1.Registration Form
a)Please visit the Xiamen Gulangyu Government Affairs website: http://gly.xm.gov.cn, or the official website of the Xiamen Gulangyu Cultural Tourism Development Center: http://www.glyylq.cn to download the registration form. Submit an electronic version of the completed form along with a printed version signed by the contestant (scanned or photographed). Registration forms that are incomplete or unclear, or that lack the required supporting materials, will be deemed invalid. Submitted registration materials will not be returned; contestants should retain copies for their records. The competition organizing committee will keep all application materials confidential and reserves the right to request additional documents from contestants.
b) Contestants must fill out the registration form truthfully according to the given instructions and are responsible for the accuracy of the information provided. Any issues arising from non-compliance with the registration instructions, errors or omissions in the form, or submission of false information that result in disqualification or inability to participate in the competition shall be the sole responsibility of the contestant.
2.Application Materials
a)One recent electronic half-length photo (in JPG format, no less than 400 pixels) and two performance photos (for printing in the program book, no less than 400 pixels). By submitting these photos, contestants consent to the use of their likeness by the organizing committee for promotional purposes related to this competition.
b)A digital copy or scanned version of the contestant’s ID card or passport.
c)A digital version of the contestant’s résumé.
d)Performance videos recorded within the past year; each piece may be recorded separately, but no editing or camera movement is permitted.
e)The organizing committee has full authority over the recording, filming, television broadcasting, online distribution, award ceremonies, concerts, and other related activities during the competition. All rights to the audiovisual materials will belong to the organizing committee, and no additional compensation will be provided to contestants.
3. Application Deadline
The deadline for applications is 12:00 a.m. on July 20, 2025.
